Hyundai Hope on Wheels Reaches $303 Million in Giving

September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, making it an important time to recognize organizations working to improve the lives of children and families affected by cancer.
For 28 years, Hyundai Hope on Wheels has been doing exactly that. This year they’ve reached a major milestone: $303 million in lifetime giving dedicated to pediatric cancer research and care.
Supported by Hyundai Motor America and more than 855 Hyundai dealers across the United States, Hyundai Hope on Wheels has become one of the country’s largest nonprofit funders of pediatric cancer research.
For local Hyundai drivers and families, that raises an important question: What does Hyundai Hope on Wheels have to do with the car you drive?
What Is Hyundai Hope on Wheels?
Hyundai Hope on Wheels is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization launched in 1998 with a mission of helping find a cure for childhood cancer.
Over nearly three decades, the organization has provided funding for critical pediatric cancer research and supported institutions working to improve treatments and outcomes for children.
In 2026, Hyundai Hope on Wheels announced that its lifetime giving has reached $303 million, supporting more than 1,600 childhood cancer research grants at more than 175 hospitals and research institutions.
According to Hyundai, this work has helped support efforts that have benefited more than 40,000 children.
That impact is made possible in large part through the partnership between Hyundai Motor America and its nationwide network of Hyundai dealers.
Hyundai Hope on Wheels Celebrates 28 Years of Progress
Hyundai Hope on Wheels marked its 28th year with a series of events in Washington, D.C., during September’s National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
The organization’s annual gala brought together Hyundai executives, dealers, members of Congress, physicians, researchers, childhood cancer survivors and their families to celebrate the $303 million milestone and discuss the continued need for pediatric cancer research.
The week also included a Congressional Reception and signature Handprint Ceremonies at Children’s National and Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The handprint ceremonies are one of Hyundai Hope on Wheels’ most recognizable traditions. Pediatric cancer patients place colorful handprints on Hyundai vehicles as symbols of hope, unity and the ongoing fight against childhood cancer.
Hyundai Hope on Wheels Is Expanding Its Reach
The organization’s efforts aren’t stopping in the United States.
Hyundai Hope on Wheels recently expanded its reach into Canada, Mexico, Korea, and Australia and announced plans to begin expanding into Europe, starting with Sweden and followed by Spain and additional countries in the coming years.
Hyundai is also advancing pediatric cancer research in India through the Hyundai Cancer Genomics Center, which is expected to benefit more than 25,000 people.
The goal is straightforward: continue supporting research, developing better treatments and giving children and their families more reasons to hope.
Recognizing Hyundai Dealers Making a Difference
Hyundai dealers play an important role in bringing the Hope on Wheels mission into communities across the country.
In 2026, Hyundai Hope on Wheels introduced the O’Brien/Reilly Spirit of Hope Award, recognizing exceptional dealer leadership in the fight against childhood cancer.
The award honors dealers who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to advocacy, community engagement, awareness and fundraising efforts supporting the organization’s mission.
Nine dealer partners were recognized across Hyundai’s regions, including the inaugural national O’Brien/Reilly Spirit of Hope Award National Dealer of the Year. The recognition highlights something that extends beyond selling and servicing vehicles: Hyundai dealers are also members of the communities they serve.
How Does Hyundai Hope on Wheels Raise Money?
One of the most meaningful parts of Hyundai Hope on Wheels is that customers can help support the cause simply by choosing a new Hyundai. Hyundai Motor America makes a $22 donation to Hyundai Hope on Wheels for every new Hyundai vehicle purchased, with the funds supporting pediatric cancer research and awareness efforts. The program is primarily supported by Hyundai Motor America and its more than 855 U.S. dealers, with customers also playing an important role through new-vehicle purchases.
That means when you purchase a new Hyundai, you’re not making a separate donation at the dealership—but your purchase is part of a larger effort that has helped Hyundai Hope on Wheels reach $303 million in lifetime giving in 2026.
What Does Hyundai Hope on Wheels Mean for the Regular Driver?
You don’t have to be a researcher, doctor or childhood cancer advocate to appreciate the impact of Hyundai Hope on Wheels.
For everyday Hyundai drivers, it’s another example of how the Hyundai brand works to connect its business with a larger purpose.
When you shop for a new Hyundai, maintain your current vehicle at your local Hyundai dealership or simply stay connected with your local Hyundai community, you’re part of a brand network that supports initiatives such as Hyundai Hope on Wheels.
It’s also an opportunity to turn awareness into action.
How Can You Support Childhood Cancer Research?
