Hyundai is Partnering with the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to Increase Car Seat Safety

Hyundai has recently announced that they are partnering with the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital for the third consecutive year. Hyundai has donated $25,000 to support the hospital’s Car Seat Safety Program. This program focuses on educating families across South Florida about proper car seat safety through safety education and free car seat checks and installations.

This donation was made through the Hyundai Hope initiative, which is how Hyundai gives back to the community. They focus on four core missions: health, safety, education, and sustainability. During their partnership, Hyundai has been able to help the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital educate families on the importance of proper car seat safety, reducing injuries and saving lives.

“This third year of collaborating with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital reflects Hyundai’s belief that lasting change comes from sustained commitment,” said Cole Stutz, chief safety officer, Hyundai Motor North America. “By continuing to invest in child passenger safety education and resources, we’re helping families make confident, informed decisions that protect children every time they’re on the road.”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that properly used car seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants and by 54% for toddlers. However, almost half of car seats are improperly used or installed. This is why the Car Seat Safety Program at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is so important. It plays a crucial role in educating families on safety and demonstrating proper installation and use of car seats.

Malvina Duncan, community outreach injury prevention coordinator, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, and SAFE KIDS Miami-Dade County coordinator, says “Every family deserves access to life-saving safety information, and that’s exactly what this collaboration makes possible. At Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, we are committed to empowering families with the tools and knowledge they need to keep their children safe. Hyundai’s generosity directly impacts the children and caregivers we work with every day, helping us reach more families across our community and ensure their little ones are protected.”

The Car Seat Safety Program installs and inspects about 200 car seats a year. They help families find the right car seat for their child’s age and weight and demonstrate proper installation and use. They also provide specialized car seats for children with special needs. In addition, the program educates 150+ families a year on child passenger safety, including lessons on vehicular heatstroke and rollover prevention. Since partnering with Hyundai Hope in 2024, the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has provided over 100 additional car seat checks a year.
